First Thunderbird modelled by Matchbox - produced 1959-65
It's the 1959 model based on the front Grille and the drawing on the box
  

Variations

Base Colour

Blue ... Blue-Green ... Black

It is rumoured that the Black Base was only used for Export.
Very few Black base models are available in the UK, most seen on eBay are in Australia or the US
 

Wheels


Silver ... Grey ... Black

First Issue was Silver, followed by Grey, and then Black.
The Silver wheels have 32 tread dimples compared to 20 on the Grey

All 3 wheel colours occur on the Black Base
The Blue Base has either Silver or Grey Wheels
The Blue Green Base only appears with Silver wheels

Other Variations

Various variations are also reported around -

  • Windscreen colour 

    • Standard has green tinge, some Black Base cars have Clear windscreens 
      (see pic below)

  • Shades of the Pink colour

    • Peach to Salmon Pink

  • The amount of Chrome (silver) paint

  • Some cars have "copper" axles rather than Steel

  • The rear lights are painted red, on some models the red covers the entire light pod
    (see pic below)
